19th-Century French School, Still Life With Peaches & Prunes

19th-Century French School, Still Life With Peaches & Prunes

A beautiful late 19th-century French school oil on canvas depicting a still life with peaches and an abundance of prunes. The details are exquisite and the light is carefully observed.

Note how the artist is drawing our eye towards the lower central part of the composition by increasing contrast and light intensity. Whereas the basket in the background is lit softly aside from the handle, which provides visual balance. As a result, it’s a piece that keeps your attention as you discover a little more each time.

The painting is housed within a handsome Montparnasse frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also often restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
