19th-Century British School, Coastal Landscape With Cattle

This charming 19th-century landscape depicts an attractive British coastal view with cattle. From our viewpoint, the slopes draw the eye down past a cottage and out across the sea, which is an array of glistening turquoise and graduated blues. The sky is typically cloudy and the trees awash with autumnal tones.

Can you imagine the outlook from the cottage window? The silence only broken by the rhythm of the waves.

The painting is unsigned but it’s possibly a view in the South-West, maybe Cornwall or Devon.

Framed and glazed.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
