A fine late-19th-century landscape painting depicting the Dolyelly Hills in Wales by British painter, William Harold Cubley (1816-1896).

Several cattle are grazing by a pond before an extensive far-reaching undulant landscape. The light is beautifully observed and we particularly love the various horizontal layers.

Cubley was a highly regarded Victorian artist that studied under the great, Sir William Beechey (1753-1839). He was known for his fine landscapes and also his portraits in the tradition of Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792). He hailed from Heanor in Derbyshire.

His career as an artist enabled him to travel widely throughout Britain and also on the continent. He exhibited many of his works at the Royal Academy including several Welsh landscapes.

The painting is signed/dated in the lower left and held within a period gilt frame.
