Wilhelm Brandenburg, Nocturne With Windmill

Wilhelm Brandenburg, Nocturne With Windmill

An atmospheric, beautifully framed, 19th-century landscape painting by German artist, Wilhelm Brandenburg (1824-1901). The composition is dominated by a proud old windmill that stands on the brow of a hill. The moon is partially covered by clouds and two farm buildings are gently lit.

Brandenburg studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Carl Hilgers and he’s known for his landscapes depicting views on the Rhine and the Moselle rivers.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a swept foliate frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
