Still Life With Plums, Peach, Gooseberries & Raspberries

This fine early 20th-century still life by English artist Oliver Clare (1853-1927) depicts an arrangement of soft fruit including plums, gooseberries, raspberries and peach. A delicious ensemble from a British garden.

Oliver Clare, like his father, George Clare (1830-1900), was a still life specialist. Able to capture the nuances of his subject with skill and appreciation.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
