A fine late 19th-century etching depicting a ‘gleaner’ in a field by German artist, Leopold Graf von Kalckreuth (1855-1928). This exquisite piece has been created with a masterly touch and an impressionistic style.

Von Kalckreuth was initially taught by his father and later attended the academies of Weimar and Munich. His work covered various subjects but tended to focus on gritty everyday scenes including field labourers and fisher folk.

In 1895, Von Kalckreuth became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. And today, he’s represented at the Munich Pinakothek.

The etching is signed in pencil and housed with a good later frame.
