Jacob Meyer, Quiet Interior Scene

Jacob Meyer, Quiet Interior Scene

A peaceful Danish interior scene depicting a study with a bookcase and an open door. The artist, Kristian Jacob Valdemar Meyer (1895-1971), has used a palette of muted tones to convey a quiet and still atmosphere. We particularly love the view through into the other room where a grandfather clock is visible.

Meyer was the son of painter Carl Vilhelm Meyer (1870-1938) and his father’s influence is evident in this piece.

The painting is signed in the lower left and housed within a gilded frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
