Jacob Meyer, Interior Scene With Open Door

Jacob Meyer, Interior Scene With Open Door

This interesting 20th-century interior scene by Danish artist, Jacob Meyer (1895-1971), depicts a view through an open door into a stylish room. The walls are adorned with colourful canvases and a desk lamp illuminates a corner by a window. Through the window itself is a glimpse of a rooftop.

Meyer often painted interior scenes with open doors and views through to windows. The technique reminds us of Edward Hopper who was a contemporary.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
