Gustav Wustmann, Portrait Of A Woman In A White Blouse

Gustav Wustmann, Portrait Of A Woman In A White Blouse

A sensitive early-20th-century portrait of a young lady wearing a white blouse with her hair swept back into a bun.

The artist, Gustav Wustmann (1873-1939), has used a mossy green background colour which accentuates the sitter’s striking eyes. It’s a delicate portrayal that suggests a gentle character.

Wustmann was the son of a great historian by the same name and studied at the Academies in Leipzig and Munich.

The portrait is housed within a decorative wooden frame with foliate corner ornamentation and gilded borders. Signed in the upper left.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
