French School Portrait Study Of A Woman Knitting In A Garden

French School Portrait Study Of A Woman Knitting In A Garden

A decorative old French portrait study of a woman knitting in her garden. The figure is quickly painted with bold impressionist marks and we love the unfinished nature of the piece.

The underdrawing is still present and you can make out various forms, such as a watering can in the bottom right.

Medium: Oil on canvas
Overall size: 21½” x 18” / 55cm x 46cm
Year of creation: c. 1910
Provenance: France
Condition: Tatty. Some small holes, general wear and the canvas is loose towards the bottom. Still fine to hang if you like your artwork in its found condition.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
