French Farmyard Scene With Barns And Figures

French Farmyard Scene With Barns And Figures

This late 19th-century farmyard scene skilfully depicts three farm buildings, along with a pair of figures, who are probably the farmer and his wife. The artist has captured the effects of light brilliantly as it illuminates the barn in the background.

We particularly love the nonchalant posture of the female as she leans in a doorway.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
