Evening In Agrigento, Sicily

This early 20th-century nocturne by Danish artist Carl Budtz-Møller (1882-1953) depicts a rooftop view in Sicily across the undulant coastline to the sea.

Perhaps he visited the island with his wife, Maria Magdalena Christensen, and this was a romantic destination for both of them. A place they grew fond of. Having explored Sicily, it’s easy to fall in love with its broad skies, breeze and cascading waters.

Budtz-Møller trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
