19th-Century British School River Landscape With Barges

A fine mid-19th-century river landscape depicting two barges under the gentle glow of an evening’s setting sun. Beyond the riverbank, a small village church is visible through the branches of an old tree. While further down the river, a series of small buildings are lightly sketched in.

The painting is housed within a beautiful foliate frame with pierced centres and corners.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
