Alexander Melville, Family Portrait With Siblings & Dog

Alexander Melville, Family Portrait With Siblings & Dog

A charming 19th-century country house group portrait depicting three children and their beloved dog. The artist, Alexander Melville (act. 1846-1887), has poignantly captured a sense of Victorian sentiment. We particular love the flowers, which complement the dresses.

Alexander Melville was a fascinating artist that worked tirelessly throughout his career. Together with his wife, Eliza Anne Melville (1829-1919), he produced numerous portraits, including several of Royalty, with the most well-known being a depiction of Queen Victoria.

The painting is inscribed in the lower left and housed within a later scroll and foliate frame.
