Alan Witney was an accomplished British artist predominantly known for producing popular Chiltern landscapes in an expressive style. He was born in India but moved to London early in life, settling in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, in his later years. Alongside his career as a painter, he also taught art in schools. His works were shown in numerous London galleries.

Moved to London. Travelled from Madras, India, aboard the ‘Margha’ together with his mother and siblings.

Lived in Bournemouth, Hampshire. Occupation recorded as “Art Master Secondary School”.

Served in World War II in the Royal Regiment of Artillery.

Married to Margaret Mary Hinds in Sevenoaks, Kent.
1970
Lived in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, where he worked as Head of Art at Merchant Taylors School until 1974.

Died in Watford, Hertfordshire.
