Tiren, Gerda (1858-1928)

Tiren, Gerda (1858-1928)

Gerda Rydberg Tiren was a highly regarded Swedish illustrator and painter. She’s best known for her illustrations of an 1899 edition of Robinson Crusoe along with many other children's books.

Gerda studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and then the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris where she probably met her future spouse, Johan Tirén, who also attended courses there. The couple had four children - one of which, Stena Tirén (1886-1951), also became an artist.

Today, Gerda is represented at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
