Steffensen, Poul (1866-1923)

Danish artist Poul Steffensen was primarily known as a painter of animals and landscapes but he was also an accomplished illustrator. He trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and exhibited regularly at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition. His father-in-law was a farmer.

Born in Vejerslev, Denmark, to Steffen Iversen, a mill builder, and Inger Kirstine Danielsen.

Studied under Christen Nielsen Overgaard.

1887-1890

Studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Frederik Vermehren, Julius Exner and Carl Bloch.

1891

Married Sidsel Cathrine Poulsen in Gulev, Denmark. Her father owned a farm.

1892

Debuted at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition. He continued to exhibit until 1922.

1923

Died in Aarhus, Denmark.
