Neuman, Jan Hendrick (1819-1898)

Jan Hendrick Neuman was born in Cologne, Germany, but soon moved to the Netherlands to study at the Royal Academy Of Art in Amsterdam. He’s primarily known as a portraitist but also painted genre scenes and miniatures.

He exhibited widely during his lifetime and today he’s represented at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. His daughter, Clasina Carolina Frederika Neuman (1851–1908), also became a painter.
