Kielwein, Ernst (1864-1902)

Ernst Kielwein was an accomplished German artist working predominantly in oils. He trained at the Academy in Stuttgart and furthered his skills by studying the old masters during a two-year stay in Paris. His younger brother Adolf Kielwein (1869-1962) was also a painter.

Born in Ludwigsburg, Germany to Christian Heinrich Kielwein and Wilhelmine Pauline Mathilde Elise Kielwein.

1881-1893

Studied at the Stuttgart Academy under Jakob Grünenwald, Albert Kappis and F. Keller.

1888

Undertook a study trip to Venice.

1895-1897

Travelled to Paris where he spent much of his time at the Louvre copying the Dutch old masters.

1899

Moved to Frankfurt.

1902

Died in Stuttgart.
