Funch, Herman (1841-1919)

Herman Funch was an accomplished Danish painter of animals and landscapes. He trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and exhibited regularly at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition.

Born in Rendsburg, Germany, to Colonel August Funch and Louise Charlotte Funch (nee Zülow).

1848

Lived in Zealand, Denmark, with his family.

Worked initially as an agricultural apprentice.

Studied under the Danish sculptor Herman Wilhelm Bissen (1798-1868).

Studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.

Began his artistic career as a sculptor.

1869

Debuted at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition. He continued to exhibit, missing only a handful of years, until 1887.

1874

Switched to pursue a career as a painter.

1887

Appointed as a coat of arms painter.

1919

Died in Copenhagen, Denmark.
