Erdmann, Axel (1873-1954)

Olof Axel Ferdinand Erdmann was an accomplished Swedish painter of landscapes, cityscapes, harbour scenes and figures. He was also a published folklorist. He trained at the Artists' Union's painting school under the eminent Anders Zorn, among others, and his works are held in numerous public collections.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, to Edvard Erdmann, a geologist, and Agnes Josefina Erdmann (nee Zetterström).

Studied at the Artists' Union's painting school under Richard Bergh, Per Hasselberg, Anders Zorn and Carl Larsson.

Studied in Copenhagen.

1905

Married the actress Betty Elisabeth Jansson.

1906-1910

Lived in Nacka, Stockholm.

1912-1916

Managed the drawing and painting school at Gothenburg Museum, which was referred to as Valand's painting school.

1911-1935

Lived in Haga, Gothenburg.

1912

Married the pianist Ragnhild Tönning.

1932-1941

Lived in Gävleborgs, Hälsingland.

1954

Died in Järvsö.
