A fine 19th century portrait depicting a handsome old gentleman wearing a suit, waistcoat, white shirt, and bowtie.

His hands are crossed over the top of a book and his jacket is unusually dusty, which could be an indication of his profession. Perhaps he was a librarian or someone that worked within the archives? However he spent his time, his expression is certainly one of contentment and peace.

The canvas is housed within an ornate swept frame, which is likely to be the original.
