The Baptism Of Christ
A large, beautifully aged, oil on canvas depicting the baptism of Christ.
Christ’s eyes are closed and his arms held across his chest as John the Baptist, dressed in furs, pours water gently from a scallop shell. A single dove, representing the Holy Spirit, begins its descent from above. In the background, the Jordon River slowly winds its way alongside the rocky bank, as the sun begins to rise on the distant horizon.
The painting is rich with vibrancy and the figures are vivid and crisp. The artist has captured both expressions superbly, even though the style is fairly simplistic. John seems focused and slightly nervous, while Christ remains serene and peaceful. A worthy addition to your collection.
