Portrait Of A Young Lady With Curls
An elegant early 20th-century Swiss portrait of a young lady with curled hair.
A supplier’s stamp on the back helps to date this portrait to the early 20th century. It refers to “Rupf & Schneider, Bern & Zurich“ and we’ve been able to find copies of advertisements for this company that were published between 1919 and 1930. It would appear that it was framed around the same time as a frame maker’s stamp refers to ‘Vitrerie’ of Lausanne.
Intriguingly, someone has also left an inscription in pencil but as this was created many years ago, only a vague indentation remains. Perhaps with further detective work, you could uncover the identity of this young lady along with the artist that painted her.
