DESCRIPTION

A fabulous portrait of a lady sporting an outfit with wide collars, which were the fashion a la mode for a few years following the Spring of 1914. Crinoline was used to give the collars their structure and the season also featured sloped shoulders and bell-shaped skirts.

Josef Rolletschek (1859-1934) was an Austrian portrait painter that studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Prague, and the Grand Ducal Saxon School of Arts in Weimar. This particular work is signed in the lower right and dates to 1916.

There are a few black spots that appear to be paint in the lower left and some light scuffs around the edge of the canvas.
