Portrait Of A Lady With A Pearl Necklace
A beautiful 20th-century ‘kit-cat’ portrait of an elegant lady wearing a light blue shawl and a pearl necklace.
In the 1920s, shawls tended to be made of silk, velvet or satin and worn over sleeveless evening gowns during the Summer months. Many had long decorative fringes and popular colours were black, jade, sapphire, and raspberry. It’s easy to imagine this sophisticated lady attending a lavish 1920s function in the style of The Great Gatsby.
Signed ‘Sage’ in the top right.
