Michael B. Critchlow (1904-1974) studied at Wolverhampton Art School and spent the early part of his career as a freelance illustrator for magazines such Woman, Woman's Own, and John Bull.
As he progressed, he became a highly regarded portrait artist, which led to his works being exhibited by The Royal Academy and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
In this particular painting, from 1968, he depicts a fashionable lady with a look synonymous with the era. It’s a time capsule from a year that saw the release of ‘Hey Jude’, ’Lady Madonna’, ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, ‘Mrs Robinson’, ‘Hello, I Love You’ and ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine’.
