Portrait Of A Gentleman In A Green Suit [Willy Fassbender]
A characterful early 20th-century portrait, depicting a dapper gentleman in a green suit, by listed artist, Willy Fassbender (1873-1938).
We purchased the painting from a private seller in Switzerland who originally discovered it at a flea market in Zurich. Little is known about the artist, but it seems that he often painted well-known figures, such as the composer, Ludwig van Beethoven.
The identity of this particular chap has been lost over time but, with his smart bow tie, Homberg hat and coiffured moustache, perhaps there’s a touch of Poirot about him?
Signed and dated in the bottom right.

The canvas has some small areas of paint loss, particularly on the left-hand side, as you can see from the photos. We’ve given it a light clean, which revealed the signature.
