A pair of small characterful companion portraits dating to around 1840. He wears a black frock coat, necktie, and a white shirt. While she wears a beautiful dress with low sloping shoulders and large puffy sleeves from the elbow.

Both are housed in 19th-century scroll and foliate frames that are likely to be the originals.

Both portraits have craquelure in areas but the paint layers seem stable. The portrait of the female has a few losses, an area of restoration and various abrasions. Frames with minor losses.
