F Plössl, Mother And Child
On the face of it, this painting could simply be construed as a depiction of a proud mother and her loving child. She’s looking straight towards us as she holds the left hand of her doting son. He’s wearing a blue outfit with white trim and places his arms on his mother’s shoulders.
However, when you consider that the painting is dated 1945 and it originates in Germany, it becomes potentially much more significant. Is this merely an innocuous family image or could it be a satirical reference following the end of World War II? Either way, it’s certainly unusual and makes for an interesting talking point.
Signed ‘F Plössl’ in the bottom right.
