Mordiford, Herefordshire [L Whittingham]
A charming little oil on board depicting a scene in Mordiford, Herefordshire.
The bridge in the foreground is crossing the River Lugg and it has parts that date to the 14th century. If you were to continue on, over the bridge, you’d notice an old church and a rectory behind the tree on the left.
For info, I’ve included a screenshot of what the building looks like now. As you can see, it’s pretty much the same. Here’s the area on Google Maps.
As an aside, Mordiford is best known for the legend of the ‘Dragon of Mordiford’, which some say used to live in Haugh Wood.
