Joshua Armitage, Dark Pond III
A large expressive oil on canvas depicting a pond before two houses by emerging British artist, Joshua Armitage.
"This painting was made in 2017 as part of a series of paintings of bodies of water. They are inspired by the memories of where I grew up in West Yorkshire, this one in particular includes a mill building that is common to the area.
"Always look closely at my paintings as part of their appeal for me is the surface quality of the paint. I am more often than not inspired by abstract painters like Gillian Ayers and De Kooning so the way I apply the paint is just as important as the image that is been painted.
"The pond paintings were made in a very fast expressive way after making lots of different studies. I hope some of the energy from this process is preserved within the image."
