Head Study Of Madame Severine [After Auguste Rodin]

Regular price £95.00

Auguste Rodin (1840–1917) was a master of expressive sculpture who is widely known for his array of exceptional bronzes and marbles. Works such as The Kiss and The Thinker demonstrate his stellar ability to capture the nuances of the human form.

This particular work is a head study of Madame Severine that was originally a chalk sketch. In the 1930s, it was reproduced as a gravure for a portfolio of master drawings and that’s what you see here.

The gravure process involves carefully etching an image onto a cylinder across a gridded pattern of tiny cells. The cells are recessed to allow the ink to gather within them at different intensities.

A beautiful piece and a worthy addition to your collection.
