Gundogs With Mallards In Flight
An early-20th-century depiction of three gundogs eagerly chasing a mallard that’s taken flight ahead of them.
The artist has probably been inspired by the works of George Armfield (1808-1893) who was a Welsh genre painter that often created scenes featuring hunting dogs.
With broad lively brushstrokes, Armfield could skilfully capture the movement and excitement of hounds in action. He was also particularly adept at fur and grasses.
