Evening Sailing [Singleton]
A tranquil turn of the century British nautical scene depicting a moored sailing vessel under a beautiful moonlit sky.
The treatment of light is such a success in this little oil painting. It seems to skim its way along the edges of the waves as it gently appears through gaps in the clouds.
We’ve managed to date the canvas fairly accurately due to the Reeves & Sons stamp on the reverse. The National Portrait Gallery holds a database of canvas stamps and this one has been recorded in 1899.
Signed D Singleton in the bottom right.
