Dutch School Still Life With Flowers & Butterflies
A striking, high contrast, still life depicting an arrangement of flora along with several colourful butterflies.
This iconic style of still life was made popular by the Dutch old masters in the 17th century when many of the flowers depicted were considered highly exotic and precious. The artist has certainly been influenced by that period and this beautiful image pays homage to the golden age of flower painting.
Every time you return to it you seem to spot something new - from the snail hidden within the leaves, through to the yellow butterfly on the right, or the pea pods towards the bottom.
The painting is signed faintly and housed within a multi-profiled frame with a velvet inlay.
