Continental Portrait Of A Lady In A Red And White Blouse
A characterful turn-of-the-century portrait of a continental lady wearing a fashionable red blouse embellished with a white lace collar.
At the start of the 20th century, blouses were often enhanced with lace collars and ribbon ties. These tended to be worn with skirts that fluted towards the hem and fitted over the hip.
Hair was sometimes looped around pads to create a brim-like effect, as we see here, and worn under large hats decorated with flowers, ribbons and feathers.
The portrait is dated 1907 in the top right.
