Cocker Spaniel [Violet Thorne Seckham]
A beautiful depiction of a black cocker spaniel by listed artist, Violet Thorne Seckham (1865 - 1966). This is one of those instances whereby the worn appearance of the canvas and frame seem to enhance the image rather than detract from it. Seckham has captured the spaniel’s expression superbly - from the delicate shape of its eye, through to the vivid touches of light reflecting off its nose.
Seckham was an accomplished painter of animal portraits and her works rarely surface these days.
