Bouledogue Français

Regular price £295.00

A handsome little vintage portrait of a French bulldog, or ‘Frenchie’.

During the Industrial Revolution, lace workers from Nottingham moved to Normandy in search of work and took their miniature Bulldogs with them. These smaller Bulldogs with upright ears soon became popular with the French who named them ‘Bouledogue Français’. Before too long, they became the dog à la mode and every fashionable Parisian had to have one.

The painting is housed within a contemporary painted wooden frame.
