Blue Scarf & Glasses [Bernard Hailstone]
A characterful vintage portrait depicting a young lady dressed in a pale blue jacket, cream top, blue scarf, and Dennis Taylor glasses.
Bernard Hailstone (1910 - 1987) was an accomplished artist that studied at Goldsmith's College School of Art and then later at the Royal Academy Schools. He was a highly regarded portrait painter and best known for creating the last ever officially commissioned portrait of Sir Winston Churchill. He also painted several members of the Royal Family, including the Queen, the Queen Mother and Prince Charles.
Rumour has it that he once adjusted the Queen’s TV aerial so she could watch the horse racing. Here’s an article that provides some further background reading about this gregarious artist.
