A captivating nocturnal coastal scene depicting a rough sea, a partially covered moon, cliffs, and a large austere building.

The artist, Anton Pick (1840-1902/1905) was of Austrian descent but was born in Gorzi, Italy. He studied in Milan and Venice, before settling in Vienna, where he spent the rest of his working life.

The painting has developed craquelure throughout which seems to add to its overall atmospheric appearance. It’s signed ‘H.Moser’ in the bottom left, which was one of Pick’s pseudonyms.
