Reserved - Mary Beresford-Williams, Portrait Of Andrew

DESCRIPTION

An engaging portrait of a young man in a tank top resting on a multi-coloured sofa. With a combination of thick impressionistic brushstrokes and warm vibrant colours, Mary Beresford Williams (1931-2017) has created an evocative and charming scene.

The subject is so typical of her style as she often enjoyed capturing the fleeting moments of everyday life that quickly pass us by. Note the interesting angle of the sofa and the portrait orientation, which cleverly focus our attention on the individual.

Beresford Williams obtained a degree in Fine Art from Reading University and was a well-known member of the Newlyn Society of Artists.

The painting is monogrammed ‘MBW’ in the bottom right and it bears an exhibition label from the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol.
