RESERVED - 2 x Miniature Landscapes
A pair of beautiful early-20th-century German miniatures depicting figures within rural landscapes.
A label on the reverse of each painting refers to the workshop of Ernst Schmidt of Arcostrasse 1, Munich. Intriguingly, Ernst Schmidt was a well-known maker of reproduction medieval armour and artefacts. At his Munich workshop, you could purchase anything from a suit of armour in the Gothic style of 1475, through to stained glass items and presumably small decorative oil paintings.
This particular pair of miniatures probably dates to around the 1920s or early 1930s and they’re housed within their original frames.
