18th Century Bearded Gentleman
A captivating 18th century portrait of a bearded gentleman dressed in, what appears to be, a long black jacket. He also seems to be wearing a collar synonymous with the clergy, so perhaps he’s a priest, minister or bishop.
The portrait was once part of larger work and has been trimmed at some point in its life. It’s now set on handmade wooden stretcher bars that bear the hallmarks of a rough saw. A very interesting piece by a highly accomplished artist.
