The artist, Piet Rackwitsz (1892-1968), was born in Rotterdam, Holland, and spent many years working in The Hague. He was self-taught and predominantly known as a landscape painter.

Later in life, he travelled through America (Boston, New York, Hollywood and Pasadena) before becoming the co-founder of the Hollywood Art Institute.

Several of his works have appeared at the leading auction houses and here are two examples.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
