Julius Paulsen, Portrait Of A Seated Woman

Julius Paulsen, Portrait Of A Seated Woman

An exquisite portrait of a seated lady by Danish artist, Julius Paulsen (1860-1940). She sits across the chair, looking down with her right hand supporting her head. The brushwork is distinctive and full of intelligent expression. Note the lips - a mere daub of red, while the skin is fleshy and almost Rubenesque.

The portrait is signed/dated in the upper right and housed within a gilt frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
