After Andrea Mantegna, Saint George & The Dragon

Regular price £149.00

DESCRIPTION

A decorative hand-finished vintage lithograph after a 15th-century painting by Andrea Mantegna (1431-1506). It depicts Saint George in armour carrying the remains of the lance he used to defeat the dragon, who lies at his feet. A winding road behind the Saint leads upwards towards a hilltop City.

The lithograph was produced by the C. Moscardi (Corina Moscardi) Company in Florence, Italy, which was well-known for its high standard of wooden ornaments and antique prints. Several areas of the lithograph have been painted by hand, including the outermost coloured border and the areas in red.

We purchased the item from a private seller who informed us that his great-grandmother initially bought it in Florence in the 1930s.

Monogrammed in the bottom left.

Framing

If the images display the artwork framed, then the frame is included in the price. For those that are unframed, we can handle the framing for you should you wish. We always try to source frames that are appropriate for the age of the painting but can also provide contemporary alternatives if you prefer. You only pay for the cost of the actual frame (usually £30 - £50) as we include the labour for free.
