Stéphane Leroy, A Family At Sunset

Stéphane Leroy, A Family At Sunset

An enigmatic turn of the century scene depicting a family watching the sunset by Belgian artist, Stéphane Leroy (1877-1940).

This beautiful piece draws you in due to its unusual composition and warm rich colours. We love the way the young girl is leaning forward towards the family dog. While her sibling is standing on tiptoes as they take in the last of the evening’s light.

Stéphane Leroy hailed from Belgian and was naturalised in France. He exhibited several times at the Paris Salon and won a medal in 1928.

The painting is signed/dated in the lower right and housed within a gilded frame that could be its original.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
