An early 20th-century oil on canvas depicting a cottage garden with outbuildings, laundry, and cat.

In the foreground, and below our feet, a track runs diagonally through the garden and out towards a clearing. This draws the eye and pulls us into the scene. On the left, a washing line with today’s laundry is hanging between two wooden poles, which stand before a rustic annexe.

Towards the middle, a cat meanders its way past the laundry towards several contorted trees with its head turned towards us.

The artist Lars Larsen (1876-1955) was born in Christiania and often painted outdoor rural scenes with traditional cottages.

The painting is signed in the lower right and housed within a gilded wooden frame.
