Joan Rockingham, Grandma’s Parlour

Joan Rockingham, Grandma’s Parlour

A beautifully rendered 20th-century oil on board depicting a table set for tea within an exquisite English parlour. The artist, Joan Rockingham, has laboured over the smallest details - even the shiny cherries atop the sticky iced buns.

The painting is inscribed ‘Grandma’s Parlour’ on the reverse so clearly this was a special place for Joan to spend some time.

The painting is housed within what appears to be its original frame.

Conservation & History

We care profoundly about our role as custodians and every piece in the collection has been assessed by our conservator. When required, we undertake professional restoration carefully using reversible techniques and adopt a light touch to retain the aged charm of each work. We also restore frames rather than replace them as many are original and selected by the artists themselves.
